General thoughts for first years that have been placed off campus

Accomodation

I graduated a while ago and never stayed in those accoms, but I can see so many people stressing about Longwood/the oaks etc. so just wanted to give a few points:

It’s cheaper than a lot of on campus en-suite accom!! (And also newer/look super nice!!)

You get study spaces (so wouldn’t always have to go to the library etc.) - as well as social spaces etc! That’s a massive bonus!!

A free gym!!! That will save you so much money vs. On campus people having to buy a membership!

There will be lots of other first years in the oaks/longwood etc,,, so you will be able to make friends in those accoms, but friends with on campus accom are definitely not out of reach!!

you might want to get a bike: I got a bike in first year and it was SO useful for the whole of uni!!! (Buying one becomes cheaper than hiring bikes/scooters very quickly) - this will save you the 20(?) min walk to uni, and saves you paying loads for the bus too (also convenient for shopping)

Overall… Don’t panic! (I know it’s easy for me to say, not being in that situation though) … this is 100% not the end of your university experience!

If anyone has any other general worries etc. I’m happy to try to answer them!!!
