Do they think everyone else has BPD?
From reading here, I see it’s common that they think everyone else is NPD. But what about projecting the symptoms/qualities of BPD onto you and seeing you as the one who has BPD?
I have one experience where I guess over time the ups and downs just made me numb. Every little thing was a crises so my emotional burn out was bad. One day she had a bad day and did hurtful things then she called me a psychopath. At the end of the relationship, I was considering leaving. I discussed it with my therapist and wanted to leave as quietly as possible. She was so hyper-vigilant she picked up on it and discarded me. But in that discard, she made sure to project her qualities (both what she liked and disliked) onto me. Towards the end leading up to it, she started implying I had BPD. The ultimate irony was in the break up, her last line was saying twice that she loved me. One of those times she said my full name, except it wasn’t correct. She slipped up and got my name order wrong.
She might have done that on purpose, who knows, but I took it as my freedom. I didn’t fight back on it or correct her, I just walked away. I took it as my: this person’s perception is so off she doesn’t even know your name. She cannot diagnose you with ASPD/BPD. But I was so deep in the FOG I started to ask people in my life “you know I go by my middle name right?” or “what’s my full legal name?” Everyone knew my first name and my middle name, and that I simply go by my middle name. I started to doubt if I had told her what my name was. But then I looked back through texts, I definitely did twice over text and once in person. At the beginning she said something bizarre that she “could read men’s souls”, but she can’t even read my name correctly.…something I’m now sort of thankful for.
I look back and realize she might have had both ASPD & BPD and the ex who supposedly was a psychopath probably was also a guy who told her no. Do they label others as having ASPD? Especially maybe ones who simply do not buy into their BS?
