Treatments not working
I’m having a really rough time at the moment and I honestly don’t know how much more I can take.
I have been diagnosed with a nerve condition (Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome or ACNES) and endometriosis, and I’ve been off work for the past eight months. During that time, I’ve been doing extensive treatment with my pain specialist. I’ve had three nerve ablation surgeries, tried a transcranial direct current stimulation device, and I’m currently undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation. I’m also on the highest dose of tapentadol I can take, but nothing is giving me any meaningful relief.
I’m working with my GP, pain specialist, pain physiotherapist, counsellor, and now a suicide prevention caseworker, but despite having all of these people involved, I feel increasingly hopeless. It feels like every intervention we try either doesn’t help or makes my pain worse.
My mental health is suffering badly. I’m exhausted from being in pain and exhausted from constantly trying to find something that might help. Right now, I feel like I’m running out of hope and I don’t know how to keep doing this.
I think I just need to hear from people who genuinely understand what it feels like when you’ve tried so many things and nothing seems to work. How do you keep going when you feel like you’ve reached the end of what you can cope with?
