Surely SOMEONE likes working BigLaw — right?
Incoming associate at a very large law firm. I obviously see/hear a lot of talk about the difficulties in big law, which I know are sure to be true, but I am seeking some positivity going into this new role after law school.
For context, I went straight from undergrad to law school, so I’ve never actually had a full-time job (other than summer internships). I may be naive, but I’m genuinely excited to start working and feel like I could really enjoy both the work and the firm environment. I also had a great time as a summer associate at the firm I am joining, but I know the summer associate experience is very different from actually working there.
Also, while I know school and work are very different, I absolutely loved law school. I'd go back and do it again in a heartbeat. I feel like that has to be at least some sort of positive sign that I might enjoy practicing too?
Among all the negativity, I keep thinking: there has to be at least ONE person out there who actually enjoys working in big law. If that’s you, what do you like about it? What makes it worth it for you?
