Mentor public schools closed today due to heat advisory

Good evening. Mentor Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, due to the expected extreme heat, as the majority of our learning spaces do not have air conditioning.
Beyond the forecast temperatures, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. stating peak heat index values from the upper 90s to lower 100s are possible.
Please note: Our sixth grade students scheduled to leave for camp tomorrow will still go. Please look for a separate communication about that.

If there is still athletic training, hopefully coaches and students are well aware of heat stroke and take provisions to avoid it.

Given the onslaught of climate change, does Mentor need to add air conditioning to its schools, although affording it may be difficult. Perhaps Ohioans should demand the state fund such improvements.
