Most complaints about brands making retros too accessible are a total lie that conceals basic gatekeeping.

Kari and Dru had a hilarious and painfully accurate conversation about the toxic relationship sneakerheads have with the Air Jordan 1. For years, people cried about limited drops, bot takeovers, and sky-high resale markups on basic Chicago and OG colorways. But the second Jordan Brand responds by ramping up inventory and releasing colorways as standard general releases, the exact same community suddenly claims "1s are dead" and that pairs aren't good anymore simply because they're sitting in stores. Everyone looks back fondly at 2015 when you could casually browse an outlet wall and find gems, but when that exact reality happens today, collectors lose all interest. It proves that a huge segment of sneaker culture doesn't actually love the design or the history—they just want manufactured scarcity and the feeling of having something other people can't get.

Are you glad Jordan 1s are easy to buy now, or did the lack of hype kill the appeal for you?

Why do sneakerheads constantly beg for retros to be accessible and then call them trash the second they become a GR? 🙄👟
