Are sonography placement roles really that hard to find?

I’m currently studying a bach of med sci, and planning on doing a grad diploma in cardiac sonography. I’m 2nd year and I’ll need to find my own placement for the diploma. What is the reality about finding placement for sonography in nsw or au in general. I’ve heard positions are scarce/competitive.
