A new pizza shop is being planned at the former Lancaster city home of Slugger’s Pizzeria, which closed in March.

Pizza Blessings is slated to open in the next two months at 701 N. Queen St. The shop is owned by Alejandro and Shira Howarth, who recently leased the property.

The Lancaster city couple said they had been considering opening a food truck when they saw the former Slugger’s property for lease.

The Howarths said they plan to operate a traditional pizza shop but hope to be able to offer some unique items. They are planning some cosmetic upgrades to the small restaurant space at the corner of Queen and New streets. They hope to open by Nov. 1.

Slugger’s Pizzeria was owned for more than 20 years by Chris Ditzler, who sold the business two years ago and later sold the building. [The shop subsequently had three different owners before it closed in the spring.](https://lancasteronline.com/business/whats_in_store/slugger-s-pizzeria-remains-closed-in-lancaster-city-as-landlord-seeks-back-rent/article_bf35698b-6f8a-447c-a69e-e1069b553a84.html)
