Protestant preachers vs. Catholic priests’ rhetorical styles

I have noticed that most Catholic priests tend to give their homilies calmly and don’t display much emotion in them, at least in the United States. Whereas Protestant preachers I have been exposed to tend to be more animated speakers, and often let emotions flow in their sermons.

I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on this. Are Catholic priests often more animated in their preaching in the southern United States? I have heard that African priests tend to be quite different.

Of course, there is a difference in that Catholics believe that the Mass is not primarily an exchange of information. Jesus does the worshipping by His sacrifice, and we participate in this. Protestants, it seems, at least low-church ones, seem to have services that are primarily an exchange of information meant to stir up “faith alone”. I could be wrong about that.
