I may have survived cancer and my outlook on life is changing. AMA

For context: I’m a British man who is 40.

I found a lump on my hand - had this shaved off and then it grew back aggressively. When it was shaved they did a biopsy and the result was inconclusive.

Then I was referred to a cancer hospital for surgery to remove it and as I type now I’m recovering - with a chunk of my hand missing.

Between the lump shaving and the recent surgery, I started to have those conversations with cancer specialists who are advising that we may be having “those” conversations soon.

I’m eagerly awaiting the biopsy results now and I still hope and expect it to be benign. However, it may not be. Let’s see.

As an unexpected effect of this experience I’ve started to consider things in my life. Considering what I’m doing in life. How I am choosing to spend it.

I hope that in a few weeks, I’ll feel like this was all just a warning shot and that maybe a wake up call for me to live life a bit more.
