Customizing Rolife plywood kits: How to apply acrylic washes without warping bare wood?

Working with Rolife 1/24 scale miniature house kits as base structures for custom diorama painting and scratch-built modifications. The stock printed paper textures and laser-cut wood pieces look decent, but I want to customize the wall finishes with water-based acrylic washes and custom miniature furniture. Does the raw plywood tolerate water-based acrylic washes and priming without warping, or do you have to seal the bare wood sheets first?
