Seeking advice on destroying kids toys, food aggression and general resource guarding behavior

We have a six year old male pembroke. Super affectionate, sweet and very much loved — my best buddy. We also have 3 young children under the age of 5 and our house is always littered with toys.

The corgi has destroyed dozens upon dozens of their toys. Plastic, metal, stuffed animals — you name it. We attempt to save the toys by offering him treats, but he only needs a few seconds to ruin them (biting off Hulk’s arm, decapitating Spider-Man, exploding a stuffed monkey, etc). As I assume many corgis do, he holds the toys between his front paws and bites and gnaws them into nubs. As a result, he is constantly pooping out chewed pieces of toys. If you try to take the chewed item away, he growls, snaps, and runs away.

The kids toys are not the only items he destroys. He destroys his own toys (he has plenty), spatulas, tin foil — literally anything he can get his stumpy paws on. He will target toys and other household items at any time. However, when commotion stirs up (kids are running around wild, we have visitors, general excitement in the home) he is sure to find something to chew on.

He didn’t always behave this way; in the first few years of us having kids he left their toys alone. For clarity, he has always destroyed his own toys (will tear apart and pull out all the stuffing from stuffed squeaky toy in under a minute).

Finally, I’ll add that he is extremely food aggressive. The kids are always dropping food on the floor and he greedily snatches it up. He’s pulled full slices of pizza out of of kids’ hands and has swallowed a chicken drumstick while after it fell off the table. Ifthere are other dogs around he gets extremely protective and aggressive (has never actually bit or attacked any dog or person)

My guess is that this is a matter of attention seeking, anxiety and, perhaps, mistaking the kids toys for his own.

Anyone have a targeted solution? Some from of training?
