Looking for a space sim where I can be a "starfighter mercenary".

Hello!

I have been getting the itch to play a space sim game lately. I have played and enjoyed Everspace 2, No Man's Sky etc but I am looking for something different. Specifically I want a game where I can roleplay as a bounty hunter with a spaceship.

An example that comes to mind is X4, where I will simply get a strong fighter spaceship and take odd jobs from here and there making a living like that.

Any suggestions? I don't care for base building and other mechanics, I just want good space dogfighting and a ship to upgrade/customise.
