Help a student find a laptop after breaking theirs the first day of the schoolyear
The Form
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
The Netherlands
- Budget
As low as possible, preferably under like 600 euro’s. This is not a hard maximum though, more a preference.
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
yes
- Screen size
My last was 15” which was comfortable. I’d like to not go lower than that, but a lot bigger wouldn’t fit in my bag, so I think it’d need to stay below 16”
- Weight limit
Anything you would reasonably travel with daily. Probably under like 3 kg, but anything that isn’t outrageously heavy would be okay.
- Purpose
I’m a law student, so the main purpose is basically office and like 1000 different search engines. I do also enjoy to game, but that is not the priority. I also need to be able to have quite a bit of files and programs and the likes, so it‘d need to be able to handle that without becoming like slow or anything.
- Form factor
Doesn’t matter. I‘m an artist, but I’ve got an Ipad with pencil, so it wouldn’t need anything like that. It’s more important to me that my laptop is reliable and can handle frequent travel and such than that it has touchscreen or flips over or anything.
- Intended usage
The heaviest things I do on my laptop are probably the Sims 4, Phasmophobia, Medieval Dynasty, Fallout 4 and Read Dead Redemption 2. My laptop was not really meant to play those, and I don’t need it to be able to handle them on great settings easily, but I would like to be able to play these games on like low settings.
- Desired battery life
8 hours? It doesn’t have to be too long, especially for heavier things like gaming, but I do need it to be able to handle word and such for some hours for like usage whilst travelling.
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
As long as it fulfills the minimums described above I’m good. But I guess it’d be Performance, Size, Battery, Weight.
- Info/Requirements
My previous laptop was a HP pavilion 15-eh3840nd , I loved it and it worked really well for me. If I could buy the exact same laptop again I probably would, but it’s no longer available in my region. I’m far from knowledgeable on computers and unfortunately, since I broke my laptop the day before I the new school year by spilling a drink over it, I’ll need to decide on and purchase a new laptop quickly, so I don’t have the time to look into it as much as I’d like. I’d appreciate any suggestions, advice or tips on what to look for. I’m really out of my depth here and it‘s freaking me out a bit.
