Why do my parents not allow me to wear tank tops and act overprotective? I'm 18F
I bought a cute tank top dress and my dad said I'm only allowed to wear it at home. It's the type of dress that you can wear in public and really isn't revealing other than the fact it shows my shoulders. I asked him why he bought the dress. Also I was wearing a shirt maybe half an inch above my belly button with high waisted pants. I know big f*cking deal. Then he asked me if I was comfortable associating myself with being Muslim after wearing that. There is a Muslim girl who is a family friend and my dad said that girl won't want to be my friend if she sees me dressing like that. This makes no sense because she has friends of other religions they dress up without their parents dictating their every clothing move. I don't even want to be Muslim anymore because some of the rules women have to follow that men don't. Such as men can marry non muslim women who follow non Muslim women of the book but I can't because I'm a girl. He also said it has never been his in his dreams that his daughter would question his clothing rules. He also said good boys don't want girls who have dated in the past and said guys don't like girls who wear revealing clothes as if I'm going to wear something crazy. My dad says that him and my big brother don't like women who wear revealing clothes as an example.I also remember when I wanted to wear a one piece to the beach and I had to argue with him to wear it. He said a woman's beauty is best hidden when I went clothes shopping with him. Whenever I try to talk to him about his stupid clothing rules, he says wear whatever you want and don't talk to me about this anymore.
