my ios app ships with zero audio files — the rain is synthesized on your phone

i built an ios app that's just five japanese ink paintings that move. a waterfall, rain on a pavilion, bamboo in moonlight, waves, koi. each one shifts between day, dusk and night with the hour. that's the entire app.

the part i'm weirdly proud of: there are no audio files in the binary. all the ambience — rain, wind, water — is synthesized on-device from filtered noise with slow randomized envelopes. the rain never loops back to the same place, and the whole app is 43MB. the first painting is free, so you can hear it yourself without paying anything.

free to download — the first painting is free forever, no timer. $5.99 once unlocks the other four. no account, no ads, no tracking, no subscription.

(it also went live on product hunt today, which is terrifying: https://www.producthunt.com/products/sumi-6 )

happy to answer anything about the audio synthesis — that part was a rabbit hole.
