CW: Pet Loss
how preventable was my cats death?
Please if someone can help me make sense out of what happened to my 8 yo boy, Thomas, tabby, neutered.
He wasn't showing symptoms up until six days ago, and now he is dead.
I took him to the vet everyday this week, he died today at 18:25.
He ate very little since sunday, he drank water, he urinated, but didnt poop last three day (he wasn't eating).
It started on sunday, august 30th, he wasn't eating normally, and he was sluggish, so i took him to the vet on monday. His body temperature was high (around 104.3°F), they gave him antibiotics, something for the pain - Catosal 10%, Clamox RTU, Meloxidolor.
On tuesday they gave him - Klavuxil, Meloxidolor, Prevomax, Catosal; he thew up four times around 3 in the morning, which i mentioned to the vet at check up.
On wendsday (i don't have the receipt), but i know the vet gave him antibiotics and something againts nausea.
On thursday he was given Klavuxil, Multi vita vet, Meloxidolor.
And finally, today he was given Clamox RTU, Catosal, Elmaro, Bysimin. Today they did a blood panel, and gave him i.v. fluids. He was fine on the way out.
Something happened on our drive home, he started wheezing, i was driving, when i stoped i saw he peed in the carier and he had trouble breathing, so i put him back in the car i we went back to the vet office.
when we got there, at least 15 min ride, they had to resuscitate him. The vet aid that he had a pulmonary oedema - the wheezing was him trying to vomit, he couldn't because according to the vet the carrier was too small, and he was a big cat - 14.9 pounds (6.8 kg).
He was f***ing drowning in his own vomit for at least 35 min (round trip), gasping for breath, his toung was blue - about 10 min in resuscitation the vet remembered she could use a machine to suck out the vomit from his lungs, he was given oxygen, two injection of adrenaline, some other injections, before he died he vomited one last time (the little bit of food he ate).
important - there are private vet clinics, and a state vet clinic in my city - this time i went to the state vet clinic, i didn't go private because i could get through to them to schedule an appointment, so i went the the state clinic - you don't need an appointment, just get there and wait your turn.
i am heartbroken, and angry, he was supposed to die of old age, not this sudden and violent.
