Swollen superficial vein in supraclavicular area
53 year old female. 5'1". 115lbs. Fit. Non smoker. Occasional drinker. No health issues or medications.
After weeks of aching, discomfort and tightness in my supraclavicular fossa and finding a pulsatile swelling being in this area then being sent for a a bunch of tests (regular neck ultrasound, Carotid doppler and an upper veins doppler yesterday) it appears that I have an enlarged superficial vein that isn't dangerous but simply varicose. No enlarged lymph nodes or solid/cystic masses were found. The tech said it feels pulsatile only because it lies close to an artery. He was the first tech to actually show and explain the findings to me after weeks of anxiety and I couldn't thank him enough.
I still have an upper artery doppler to be done on the 11th but I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar or if any doctors here have seen this before? Can it be treated/managed like a varicose vein on the leg if no underlying cause is found?
I do wonder if I may have done this to myself after I lifted and pulled my outstretched arm with a heavy kettlebell while setting up to do hip thrusts off a bench. I was really stiff and sore in my shoulder and neck for a couple of days before this all started.
Thank you. 🤍
