What do 200 restorers wish they had known before starting?
A few weeks ago, I shared an anonymous survey here asking restorers to share their experiences, challenges, and advice. The response grew far beyond what I expected, with more than 200 people from around the world contributing their experiences.
After reading through all those responses, I’ve published the next article in the series: What 200 restorers wish they had known before starting.
The article looks at some of the realities that don’t always get talked about when you’re first discovering restoration: how difficult it can be to stay consistent, dealing with slow progress and periods of frustration, finding a method that actually fits your life, and learning to avoid some of the mistakes that can set you back.
But perhaps the most interesting part was seeing what experienced restorers would tell their younger selves—or someone just starting today.
There were some very consistent pieces of advice, but also some surprisingly personal stories.

And if you’ve been restoring for a while, I’d love to hear from you too:
What’s the one thing you wish you had known when you started?
