Infant circumcision should be illegal.

(Question/Discussion)

When I was 6, I (and I'm sure pretty much all muslim men) was intimidated into circumcision — it's not like they even gave me a choice.

This would make Muslims and Jews very mad, but babies cannot consent to permanent and irreversible alterations to their body. The traditional argument is that parents act (or at least "are supposed to act") on best interests of their child. While I agree to some extent, not all parents do.

A minor haircut or clipped nails can grow back. A mutilated part of your skin can't. You can decide to circumcise at any point of your life — you can't reverse it. Babies are not capable of making rational decisions that would effect them for the rest of their lives — just like they can't vote or drink; they can't give consent.
