Is it realistic to sit for 9 O levels across 2 years?
I’m trying to decide whether I should take 9 Cambridge O Levels over two exam sessions, and I’d really appreciate opinions from people who have experience with O Levels/A Levels or university admissions.
My current plan is:
May/June 2027 (4 subjects):
- Mathematics D (General Mathematics)
- Additional Mathematics
- Physics
- Computer Science
May/June 2028 (5 subjects):
- English
- Bangla
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Economics
So I would have 9 O Levels total, split 4 + 5 across two years.
The main reason I’m considering this is to reduce the pressure of taking all 9 subjects around the same time.
I struggle a lot with English and especially Bangla, so I thought it would make more sense to give myself more time for those two. I also grouped them with Biology, Chemistry and Economics in 2028 because they are more theory-heavy for me, while the subjects in 2027 are ones I feel more comfortable studying intensively.
My main concern is whether taking 9 subjects over two years is a sensible way to reduce workload, or whether it would be better to sit them all together in one session.
I’ve also heard conflicting things about whether universities abroad care about how O Levels are distributed across exam sessions. I’m planning to specialize more at A Level, but I’m still unsure what exact field I want to pursue, which is another reason I like having a broader range of O Level subjects.
So I’d really appreciate opinions on:
- Is 9 O Levels over two May/June sessions considered reasonable?
- Does splitting them across two years have any significant disadvantage for university admissions?
- Is this actually a good way to reduce pressure, or am I just spreading the workload unnecessarily?
- For someone who struggles significantly with English and Bangla, does this kind of split make sense?
- Would you personally recommend keeping 9 subjects, reducing the number, or changing the distribution?
I’m mainly looking for honest opinions rather than reassurance.
