Agency chatters — is this normal, or are some agencies just 🚩?

Call to Action

Not gonna name the agency because I’m still waiting for clarification, but I’m curious if other chatters have experienced something similar.
Someone close to me recently got offboarded after already passing probation. There were a couple of attendance issues, and to be fair, he admits that he could’ve handled some things better. One was because of a family emergency, another was basically a scheduling mix-up, and then there was an unexpected power outage.
What’s weird is the PAY SITUATION.
During training, they were told that once they passed probation, they’d still be paid accordingly even if they were eventually offboarded. Now that he’s been removed right before payday, he was told he won’t be getting paid.
I understand being strict with attendance and company policies. If he messed up, then he messed up. But if the payment policy was explained during training, how does that suddenly become “no pay” after offboarding?
He already reached out to clarify but is still waiting for a response.
And honestly, this is making me wonder because I’ve been seeing a lot of similar complaints about agencies — micromanagement, weird policies, etc. 😭
Not trying to expose anyone or start drama. Just wanna know if this is actually normal in the chatter/agency industry or if we should be taking this as a massive 🚩.
Especially curious to hear from people who’ve worked with agencies for a while. What’s the worst “agency policy” you’ve encountered?
