Blood Collection tech as a PCE?
Hey Guys,
27 F and have wasted a lot of my time and potential. I am seriously considering PA in the next 2-3 years. Preferably i want to be in a PA school by 2029.
I need some advise on Pre PA preparations.
Community College Bio Sciences cgpa 3.2. Stat, A&P 1, and Psychology all have As
Bachelors in Health Care Administration cgpa 3.87.
Average 3.4 cgpa
Internship: screening for SNAP for underserved communities.
Volunteer: 200 hours and working on more.
Pre reqs will start in January 2027 to May 2028.
Experience: +1600 hours non clinical ED/ER Registration. +1500 hours (working on more) in Blood Collection Tech/ Phlebotomy. I do vitals, hemoglobin, health history, phlebotomy on blood donors, observe and care for adverse donor reactions and hematoma. I will be getting trained for Power Reds/ Apheresis soon. I am thinking if performing a blood donation procedures has any value for PA schools.
I know I don't have patient care experience which really worries me, so what is your advise? Is it wise to leave this job and find a patient care tech role in a hospital or stay here and shoot for 3500 hours? I am also thinking for volunteering in a assisted living 1 on 1 with residents and underserved / refugee clinics or organizations. Previous Volunteer experience as a teacher in a faith based Sunday school.
Looking for a genuine advise. thanks
