HRIG given IM instead of around wound?
My 3-year-old 15kg female was scratched by a stray cat today. We went to the hospital within an hour, and she got her first anti-rabies vaccine.
The hospital prescribed HRIG 300 IU/2 mL. At the ABC, the pediatrician initially planned to inject it around the wound but decided the scratch was too tiny and would require several painful injections, so they gave the entire 2 mL IM in her left deltoid instead.
Is this okay for a very small scratch? Has anyone experienced this? they insisted that it is okay though
