Why is Sinner’s Doping Suspension compared to Halep/Vondrousova/Brooksby rather than Cilic?

Question

Since doping keeps coming up consistently on this sub, and especially with all the criticism Sinner got for being let off with a small 3 month suspension, lot of people are comparing his case to others which have no relation whatsoever

Missing a drug test is first of all, the worst type of offense. Because you basically are asking for trouble and look super guilty if you are refusing to take a simple drug test.

Second of all, Halep had a lot higher amount of the drug in her system and had numerous irregularities in her blood passport compared to Sinner

The best example to compare Sinner’s to is Marin Cilic, who had an inadvertent contamination to Glucose tablets, where he was considered negligent because the tablets he bought did have a warning that it may contain the banned substance. It wasn’t the exact same as Jannik’s case but in terms of semantics it’s in the same class compared to the rest of them.

And Cilic ended up getting 4 months which was very similar to the 3 months that Jannik got (he also had far more of the drug in his system). Mind you this was in 2013 before Cilic won his slam so it wasn’t like he was big enough in the sport to get favorable treatment. Somehow despite that, nobody talks about Cilic in a negative light the way they do about Jannik today. Why is that?

If you are not aware of the Cilic doping situation from 2013, here is an article summarizing it: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/sep/16/marin-cilic-ban-positive-test
