1 year old screaming is driving whole house insane
This is my 2nd child, my 1st child wasn’t a screamer. She screams so much throughout the day it’s driving us all insane! Wakes up… screams. Hungry… screams. Tired… scream. Can’t reach a toy… screams. Wants to throw herself off of any furniture and we stop her… screams. Don’t get food to get fast enough when in her high chair… screams. It is the most horrible, ear splitting god awful noise and my poor 5 year old has taken to just hiding in his room whilst husband and I bicker about taking turns to have to deal with her.
It’s so sad as she has lots of moments where she is a sweet, giggling, funny little baby and has been on track with all milestones and loves to go out and about and meet people etc. but now all of a sudden she is just this screeching monster! We use baby signing with her and she will imitate signs and sometimes do them after she’s scratched and we ask her what she wants with 2 options and the signs but it’s like the screaming is the default and no matter how we ignore, redirect or try to make sure her needs are met in anticipation she just keeps bloody screaming!
Earlier I was crochet down by her high chair grabbing her cup that she had thrown from the floor and as I stood up she screeched in my ear and I lost it, I shouted ‘No!’ At her and of course she burst into tears and I felt awful. She’d screamed so loud that my ear was ringing and I just shouted without even thinking. She seems fine but I don’t want to be that mum who shouts at her kids, especially a baby who doesn’t know better. I also find myself thinking ‘all she does is scream’ which is so negative but I’m just so exhausted by it.
Please tell me this is just a phase and she’ll get over it?!
