Why do you think Inner Mongolia is much more prosperous than Xinjiang?
I recently looked up the economic stats of the two provinces. Inner Mongolia has a gdp per capita of 15,500 usd, and Xinjiang is only slightly above 10,000. And Inner Mongolia is very developed in terms of infrastructure, some of the cities their look no different comparing to eastern china.
I think it's about culture, Mongols are much less religious comparing to turkic people in central asia which make em easier to assimilate to the East Asian/Confucianism culture. For Xinjiang, the people there are more keen on their muslim background which make it harder for em to assimilate in China. Which also led to the oppression from the government.
I always thought Mongols were kinda like the Manchus or the jurcheons. I.E. despite their nomadic origin, they are able to easily assimilate to other cultures, in this case Han chinese culture.
I want to hear from people from central asia or mongolia their thoughts on this matter
