Questions for you girlys out there

Last week I was hanging with a bunch of family friends at the park, age rang 15 - 18. I am 14 and they are all girls. My friend who is 15 just startsd her period that same day. She already knew what to do because her mom has been talking about and stuff. So after she did her business we were just walking and talking about the topic since she mentioned it. I then told them I started my period when I was 8. Things got real quiet and they staired at me like I was crazy. They started calling me unc and that I was old,(even though im the youngest one). Did I start to early and or are they just overreacting and being bums?
