Hello - this is to travelers and anyone unaware of what’s occurring in the canyon.

Hello - I want to start by saying I’m not an expert, but I live in Arizona and feel obligated to post. The news media is not accurately reporting on the situation or damages from the bright angel canyon. They are not speaking to the residents, only the mayor and the mayor is basically providing “PR answers”

I have connected with locals that live on the canyon and they have informed me that the news shifts every day, and they are surprised people are still showing up without knowing they’ll get turned away.

The canyon is in a situation, they have evacuated all of the tourists, only the residents are allowed to be there. The pipeline from the north rim to the south where the reserves are, broke during the flood. They have maybe 40 days of water reserves left and I’m not talking about drinking water. I am talking infrastructure water, toilets, showers, etc. in the town halls they are not getting direct answers, the superintendent is on vacation, and is not providing direction to the locals. There has been no solution thus far, they are not allowing water to be trucked in over concern of “contamination”. It was explained to me that the water is treated differently than elsewhere and they don’t want a flint Michigan situation. Awaiting more news to understand this.

The park rangers and other residents are concerned that this is a plan to shut down tourism to the Grand Canyon entirely for the next few years since they are not getting genuine answers from the park service. Their daily lives are up in the air and the only accurate reporting I’m seeing on this is from those residents who live there. If you are a person who is traveling to the Grand Canyon for any reason, please try to change your plans. They cannot support tourism right now due to their infrastructure. You will be turned away.

Given there has been no real reporting outside of the two handles I mentioned above, I can try to follow up with more information as I gather it. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
