Bag policy for merch stands outside sofi?

I’m thinking of going straight to sofi from the airport to buy merch, but I have a backpack that doesn’t meet their bag policy. I’m planning on going to my hotel after to get ready. Am I allowed to bring my regular backpack just to buy merch or do I have to put it in valet?
