Rant

The maintenance dept in our residential society is going door-to-door collecting chanda for Ganesh Chaturthi.

They come in a bunch and won't leave until we pay. It doesn't seem to matter to them whether we're interested in participating or even following their tradition.

I have absolutely no issue with people celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi or contributing to it voluntarily. That's their choice.

But why should they force someone into paying for their religious practice even if one is not interested or believe in it?

Has anyone else dealt with this in their apartment or society? Is this normal practice? It's like peer pressure, "everyone else is paying so you also have to pay" 🤡

ps- Also they've tied those orange flags to every pole in the community. I feel pity for every non-hindu out here. Why can't gated communities be neutral or secular when it comes to religion?
