Using multiple specialized design apps/tools vs. all-in-one design software suites

Discussion

I've over the years worked on developing a number of small specialized apps for graphic design tasks. While they've found a niche and have been appreciated by users there my feeling is that the vast majority of designers tend to pick a large system suite (like Adobe or Affinity) and then just work in that ecosystem.

The benefit of that is obviously the convenience of having everything integrated in the same system. However, while I'm biased in this I think that it also limits designers. Not just in terms of specific functionality, but also in their thinking and inspiration, being used to a specific set of tools and workflows.

Do you use other design tools outside your preferred main design software? If so, what and why? And if not, why not and what would it take for you to do that?
