No family background in wine, planning my dream degree in Viticulture & Oenology in Italy on a budget. need advice on affordable universities & work-study!
I'm a high school student from Malaysia graduating this year. I don’t come from a winemaking family or a wealthy background ,just a regular household. but I find interest in winemaking and want to make it my lifelong career. My ultimate dream is to start from the ground up, getting hands-on with viticulture and the fundamental oenology process.
I’ve been researching universities in Italy that offer Bachelor’s degrees in Viticulture and Oenology, but the huge amount of options is a bit overwhelming. Since budget is a major factor for me, I need some guidance from those who know the system.
A few details about my situation and what I'm looking for:
- I’m looking for public universities with relatively low tuition fees for international students (or those with good regional scholarship/fee-reduction options based on family income).
- Work-Study Opportunities: I plan to work part-time while studying to help support my living expenses in Italy.
- Hands-On Experience: I really hope to find a program that places a strong emphasis on field practice, vineyard work, and internships (like hands-on harvest experience during the vendemmia).
If you have studied winemaking in Italy, are an international student there, or work in the industry, I’d love to hear your recommendations PLSSSSS Which universities or regions (e.g., Tuscany, Veneto, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna) should I look into? How realistic is doing part-time work alongside a practical degree like this? and what should I prepare now?
Thank you so much for your time and help!
