How do I figure this game ou

I don't mean to sound angry/confused when asking this, more just curiouse on where do I start when playing this game.

I just started playing the game and tried McGinnis, I like her but I was wondering if there is a better character to learn how the game works. I was also wondering if there is a good guide to help me learn the basics of stuff like laining, making your build, movement, soul farming, etc. (I know the waves are the best for sould initially, but what else should I do, and should I shoot back at the people on the other side or start looking around)

If anyone has any videos or guides I can check out it would be a huge help. Thank you in advance
