Thats almost 2 straight years of job creation gong entirely to women.

One thing this recent fact reminded me of is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. The difference between women having the upper hand or men having the upper hand in the economy.

Women have won. The future is female? The future is now!

So, what happens when women have the upper hand? Do they treat men the way men treat women? No. We are very different. They don't lead relationships, ask men out, or use their status to get with men. They use it to get as far away from most men as they can and create female exclusive spaces. Men aren't switched into more domestic or subordinate roles, we just become totally superfluous. We're not all going to become stay-at-home dads or trophy husbands.

I understand that for much of history the male advantage to force women to stay with them meant lots of women were kept in abusive or unhappy relationships. Still, something has to be said about why, in a species that reproduces sexually, one sex is so indifferent to the other it requires massive social control and force to keep them around. I read all kinds of crazy comments on the internet of women saying how if their husband died they'd basically be okay and just never get remarried because marriage isn't that important to them. When men have an advantage over women they use it to force women to stay with them. Arranged marriages, war brides, harems, extorting sex from them, withholding resources in exchange for sex or attention. Divorce is restricted or not allowed. Women have to have lots of kids. Women are kept domicile and made to do lots of work to maintain homes, the church, and communities.

Once women have the upper hand they do everything they can to escape men and create female exclusive spaces. Marriage rates go down, divorce rates go up, fertility declines, there is less sex, less cohabitation, less dating. Male social and sexual isolation is a function of female success. Women don't naturally like us, what is happening now is them going their own way. They never wanted to be around us that much. There is a clear asymmetry in interest between the sexes. When empowered women don't use and abuse men. They simply walk away and ignore us. Men use their power to keep women close. Women use their power to escape us.

The future is female.
