Looking for advice from anyone who has firsthand experience with an Air Force BMT ELS.

Our 19-year-old son is currently in 737 TRSS/out-processing at Lackland. He was notified in week 3 that he is being separated after an incident that occurred during his first week. He submitted a written statement to his commander asking to remain in the Air Force, but the separation decision was upheld. We are trying to understand what options, if any, he still has before the separation is finalized.

Has anyone been in 737 TRSS/out-processing and successfully had an ELS reconsidered, appealed, or stopped? Did speaking with Area Defense Counsel make a difference?
We’re not looking for judgment about the incident. We’re just trying to help our son understand his options and make sure he doesn’t miss an opportunity while there’s still time.
