The adult dynamic was by far the most interesting
I think this is the topic most people have been curious about for a very long time and it's interesting to finally see it on our screens. Here are my thoughts:
TJ:
Seems like a good dad in the sense that he provides for and looks after everyone. Doesn't seem like that great of a person from a moral standpoint considering how he got with Ashley and he says himself his type of humor doesn't sit well with many people and says he is always saying dumb shit he shouldn't be saying. Super weird the way he talked about Alix's boob job but in a way I also kind of think it's nice how open and close their relationship is. Seeing the show made me understand his and Ashley's relationship more, like they do seem to be a similar type of person so I can see how they get along. I died at the part where TJ said he and Thomas weren't going to participate and go have boy time instead, and Thomas staunchly said no he didn't want to have boy time and he was going with the girls. When TJ asked what girl time meant Thomas said it meant going to watch his sister compete along with everyone else. Thomas clocked TJ so bad here it shut TJ right up haha. I feel like TJ's karma is having all daughters plus Thomas who has no interest in "boy" time.
Ashley:
Doesn't look come off looking great. She does a poor job of hiding that she doesn't feel bad about anything because ultimately she got what she wanted in life. You can tell she wants fame and to ride Alix's coattails so bad. To her credit it does seem like she tries really hard with Alix and Ashtin and pretty much takes whatever disrespect they give her, but imo she 100% deserves it and taking it is pretty much the only correct course of action. She says a lot of stupid things and seems really immature, Alix clocked her pretty accurately when she said Ashley doesn't think before she speaks and that her and Ashtin have had to be more mature than her. They give her a LOT of grace considering everything that happened. Alix says they've never had any deep conversations about what's happened in the past and you can tell Alix and Ashtin still have a lot of resentment and animosity towards her because of it. I don't like Ashley because she's so selfish and always inserting herself inappropriately but you can tell she is trying her best to make things work as they are now, it can't be easy for her to be around Alisa so often either but i'm glad they do it for the kids.
Alisa:
Very impressed with her, she gives SO much grace to TJ and Ashley and she seems like a really strong woman who is likely the one responsible for any good morals that Alix and Ashtin do have. They mention her and Todd have broken up several times and that she's the type to just run at any sign of things being bad, I wonder if that comes from the trauma of being left by TJ and having it be so public. I can imagine that would mess with anyone's sense of trust and security moving forward. I definitely felt bad for her being left out of the Aspen trip, it can't be easy to see your daughters going off with your ex who cheated on you and their new family on all these amazing trips and feeling left behind.
Todd:
Not much to say about Todd other than I find him very likeable with golden retriever energy and he seems to really adore Alisa. To me he comes off pretty authentic, charming, and handsome but a little bit "how do you do fellow kids" in the scenes where he's wearing a backwards baseball cap haha. I hope he and Alisa stay together and make it work.
I wish they went into more detail about what happened back then. Like what made TJ actually stay with Ashley and marry her afterwards, wouldn't that have been embarrassing for him or was it to save face? Did he really fall in love with her? I had no idea that the papers were posting photos of Alisa and Ashley side by side in news about the affair, that's an awful thing to go through. I also wanted Alix and Ashtin to go more in detail about how they viewed and treated Ashley up until Izabel was born and what that was like. Would've liked Ashley to expand on this from her POV as well other than saying they put her through the wringer. They do say later how Ashley was the same age Alix is now when this all happened, her getting more into her mindset at the time would've been interesting. How did TJ try to explain the situation or parent them through this? What was Todd's reaction when he first started dating Alisa and started coming along to these family gatherings with her ex?
The dynamic really is so interesting. I'm glad they make it work it's nice to see but also so wild.
