IJW: "Idiots" (2026).
Went to this in the theater only because I went to Macon Blair's Toxic Avenger last year, and I try to follow directors' movies in the theater. This looked like it had some makings of being a stupid throwback to '90s-type dumb buddy flicks. Dave Franco and O'Shea Jackson Jr. play down-on-their-luck dudes who take a job transporting troubled rich kid Mason Thames to a rehab/support facility, not knowing what he did to deserve it.
The problem with the movie is that it's just not funny or amusing at all. It just plods along. It has some fun atmosphere of staying in a crappy motel and all that, but none of the situations are amusing. It feels like Blair maybe thought some things could have been funny, but it's not. Three guys in the theater kept laughing throughout at stuff that just plain wasn't funny, so maybe they were as stoned as Franco's character. The only funny moment came in the first scene when Jackson is confronted by a church pastor for mistakenly taking his Christian youth group to a screening of the movie Antichrist. The pastor says the kids told their parents "It had dongs going in".
