Most apps push vocabulary on you that you'll never use, so I ditched them and did this instead.
Almost every language learning app out there pushes you to learn vocabulary sets that might not be useful in your life right away, so you end up forgetting most of them because you never got to use them.
So here's what's actually worked for me:
Instead of studying whatever list an app hands me, I generate my own based on something real I have coming up, so every word or phrase I learn actually counts. None of it goes to waste.
-> I tell any AI the situation, like "B1 Turkish: Getting a haircut at a barber shop" and ask for 15 mostcommon words/phrases people actually say there, with a simple meaning and example sentence.
-> Then I don't import all 15. I keep maybe 8 to 10, only the ones I think I'm gonna use or hear soon, and skip the rest that doesn't feel relevant.
-> Then I turn the ones I want to learn into an Anki deck and start learning. I just rely on the spaced repetition system Anki already has.
After doing this I stopped looking for the "best" language learning app out there, because every day I'm able to learn words I actually want to learn, and I find it really effective.
Anyone else doing something similar?
