Suspension work question

This might be a dumb question but here goes. I know you’re able to remove the rear shocks with the truck on the ground because they aren’t preloaded. Am I then able to safely jack up the front after removing the rears? I won’t be able to put the new shocks on right away so I’d prefer to only have the front on jack stands and keep the rear wheels on the ground if possible
