Fitbit Air after 4 months: what’s the point if none of the tracking is accurate?

Other

I have to say, I’m very disappointed with the Fitbit Air.

I bought it at launch and have been wearing it 24/7 for almost four months now, and the data is just not accurate.

Sleep data is inaccurate, fitness data is inaccurate, steps are inaccurate honestly, pretty much all of the data seems unreliable. At this point I’m struggling to understand the purpose of having a device that doesn’t actually do what it’s supposed to do.

I thought the whole point of a tracker like this was to accurately track things like sleep, workouts, activity, recovery, etc. But instead it feels like it just guesses most of the data, and a lot of the time those guesses are simply wrong.

I haven’t had a single night where my sleep was accurately reflected in the app. Not the duration, not the sleep stages, nothing. I’d say it’s maybe 70% accurate overall, but that’s so low that I feel like I can estimate how long I slept more accurately myself than the device can.

Readiness is also completely inconsistent. Sometimes I sleep six hours, feel exhausted, and get a readiness score of 99. Other days I sleep 9+ hours, wake up feeling refreshed and energetic, and get a readiness score of 38. How does that make any sense?

I do both fitness/strength training and calisthenics, and it has never tracked a workout properly. It has also never automatically started tracking one, even though I’ve set the auto-detection threshold to the minimum of 10 minutes. My sessions are usually at least an hour long.

The step count also seems way off.

So what exactly is the purpose of this thing? Is it basically just estimating a bunch of metrics based on heart rate and hoping they’re close enough?

I’m genuinely really disappointed. I don’t understand why someone should pay €100 for a device whose entire purpose is tracking when it doesn’t seem to track anything reliably.

It’s literally a tracker. So why isn’t it tracking?
