My peers are getting married and I feel left behind, but I am unsure if I even want to get married. I guess I'm just really confused.
I am a 25 year old female. I grew up in a Mormon culture, and in that culture it's very typical to get married young, like in your early to mid twenties. Even though I am no longer considering myself Mormon, a lot of people I grew up with are now married. Even people who are a couple years younger than me.
I was dating a guy that I thought for sure I was going to marry but it didn't work out. We were together for years, and I was crushed when we broke up. (It wasn't cheating or abuse, we agreed that we were better as friends)
I haven't really dated anyone since. The breakup happened about 2 years ago.
But if I'm being honest with myself, I haven't really been pursuing dating. I never did online dating or had the nerve to ask someone out. There are some things I like about being single.
But I think my biggest issue with myself is I feel like people around me are having a big life accomplishment and I'm falling behind. And of course I don't want to marry someone just to marry someone. And I think I'll be okay if I end up not marrying anyone.
And I know I am still young, and maybe another guy will come along. And down the road maybe some of my peer's marriages won't work out. (I am not rooting for anyone's marriage to fail)
I just feel left behind. The advice I'm looking for is how to maybe get some confidence back into myself? Or even some advice to stop falling into comparison traps?
Thank you for reading.
