Is passport mandatory- Tax consultant role.

I have been selected for tc-1 position (otn hire), and I have applied for passport but it'd take some time to receive it. Will it cause any problem during bgv? Is it mandatory document for bgv? Can anyone who has joined, confirm this with their experience?
