Does it really get any better over time?
My ex and I broke up almost three weeks ago. According to him, he had fallen out of love because of our LDR. We only saw each other twice a month, and because of our different jobs and schedules, there were times when we barely talked. When we did, our conversations would often end in arguments.
He blocked me on literally everything. I have a private Instagram account, and sometimes I still check his stories just to get updates about him.
But today, I realized that he has already started creating a life without me. I saw that he went to a bar with a friend, and it made me realize that maybe I really need to stop checking his account through a dummy account because I know it’s only keeping me from moving forward.
What makes this so difficult for me to accept is that he made me believe that our breakup was my fault. I was led to believe that I was the problem because we always fought over small things and because I supposedly didn’t understand him enough.
I let myself believe that I was the reason everything fell apart. I even stopped eating because I was so depressed and convinced that everything was my fault.
But the truth is, all this time, he had started developing feelings for a girl from their dorm building. He had previously told me not to worry about her because she wasn’t his type, even though his coworkers would constantly tease him about her.
He broke up with me a week before our anniversary. Then, on our actual anniversary, I opened his Instagram and saw his flirty messages with her.
I was extremely emotional, so I messaged the girl and told her how hurtful and cruel the situation felt to me. I also messaged the guy who had been teasing my ex about her, even though he knew my ex had a girlfriend. He replied, saying, “I’ll carry this resentment toward you for the rest of my life, and please stop contacting me or my circle. You have no right to contact us.”
I know what I did wasn’t the smartest decision I’ve ever made. Looking back, I probably should have handled things differently. But at that moment, I felt like I finally had the courage to stand up for myself and call out what I felt was a very low and unacceptable thing for his friend to do.
Now, we’ve had no contact for almost two weeks.
Some days, I don’t feel anything. Some days, I miss him. Other days, I feel incredibly sad especially on my days off from work, when I catch myself thinking, “We could have been going on a date today.”
I still wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and think about him.
So, guys, does it really get better with time, even when you never get the apology or closure you feel you deserve?
I know I need to move forward. I just hope that, eventually, this won’t hurt as much as it does now.
