**How Can a Father Protect His Daughter’s Heart Without Becoming Controlling?**

This reflection begins with Proverbs 4:23 and follows a father’s calling from years of heart formation to the season when his daughter begins making significant choices in relationships. Drawing from raising three daughters, I explain why my wife and I taught them to ask, “What happens next, and then what?” The question encouraged them to consider consequences, maturity, calling, friendships, and future direction. Scripture remains the authority. It directs fathers to teach God’s Word, avoid provoking their children, examine shared faith and character, uphold purity, speak graciously, ask God for wisdom, and trust Him as children become adults. The goal is not merely to approve or reject a boyfriend. It is to help a daughter become rooted in Christ so she can recognize wisdom, honor God, receive counsel, and make mature decisions when her father is not beside her.
