Drifting Orbits
Nobody looks at plain old stars anymore;
We want a universe bedazzled.
marbleized milky ways in mother of pearl,
inlaid meteor showers with tassels.
/
Arcs of brilliant sparks inside solar storms.
winking lights, so bright, they are blinding.
And the common mistake a comet makes?
It's too straight; mutate it, wildy winding.
/
Black holes fail to impress, so much less,
until dressed as malignant ebon maw.
Not stately enough, no weight at all,
unless costumed with retrable claws.
/
It's not gritty enough, nor pretty enough,
until decked out: leather or lace.
But don't ask me to be, anybody but me,
/
and I guess I can give you some space.
