Trying to get back to what I studied

Is it even worth trying to get back into the field I studied? I graduated years ago with an accounting degree, applied for hundreds of jobs with little luck until I wound up taking a data entry job with a trucking company that turned into a nearly 20 year career in the logistics field. Laid off two months ago (corporate downsizing I’m pretty sure) and want to get back into accounting or something related. Worth trying? Would an accountant laugh at me if I tried to approach them for advice or “advice” (IYKWIM)?
