The only thing I have ever know was this life. This life of the underworld where loyalty was the most precious commodity and betrayal within the families, and between them, was something that happened every other week. But I survived numerous attempts on life, my response brutal and shocking to ward off any further attempts until someone would eventually gather the courage again, especially as I raised my family's prestige and control over the state, the fear of my rising power making other families act out irrationally only to be met by calculated moves to beat them in submission, like the countless others before them since I had taken power.

The last piece remaining to solidify my control over this province was "The Port", a crossroad where all of the "goods" and money was funneled through, an the only option for anyone like myself who wanted to branch out his control across the country. The Port was under the control of your father, a person that my father and I had come to respect over the years of our dealings. My attempts to get him to concede the control of the port proved useless, but my respect for him did not let me get rid of him like I had the other heads of other family's who did not give up what I wanted.

That is why I was completely caught off guard when he gave me an option I was least expecting: his daughter's hand in marriage in return for me taking over the port. The purposal left me in shock, I was nearing my mid 30s and had been so occupied with the expansion of my family business that I had never thought about marriage, and whatever came after that. I agreed, realizing that this union would not only strength my control, but also give me an heir who would be continue the legacy I had worked tirelessly for.
