Sanseito gained a 12.5%. 5.6 million proportional votes

The LDP lost 5.4 million of its proportional votes.

Since then the LDP has been put in a position of needing to satisfy those voters by adopting many of the core messages that Sanseito put forward regardless of them being false.

This has only led to reinforcing the false viewpoints and leading to an uprise in one core message

Foreigners are bad

For context on every number below: foreign residents are about 3.3% of Japan's population.

Here is a list of all of the false claims made by Sanseito paired with the truth in hopes we can spread truth rather than false claims. Spread togetherness rather than fear.

WELFARE

Claim: 33% of welfare households are foreign.

!Reality: 2.87%.!<

Claim: foreigners find it easier to get welfare.

!Reality: take-up is 1.93% among foreign residents vs 1.62% overall.!<

Claim: Chinese welfare recipients doubled in five years.

!Reality: 9,471 people in FY2023 vs 9,059 in FY2018. An increase of about 400. The Health Minister said this directly at his 15 July press conference.!<

Claim: welfare recipients are mostly foreigners with no legal right to it.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Claim: foreigners owe ¥400bn a year in unpaid national health insurance.

!Reality: total unpaid across everyone in FY2022 was ¥145.7bn.!<

Claim: foreigners free ride on health insurance.

!Reality: total unpaid medical bills ¥76.6bn, foreign share 1.4%. Foreign residents are 4.0% of NHI members and account for 1.39% of medical costs and 1.21% of high-cost care benefits. Per capita ¥261,000 (foreign) vs ¥371,000 (Japanese)!<

The double whammy: May 2026 Sanseito's own leader announced eight of the party's roughly 200 local assembly members were told to leave for evading national health insurance premiums via nominal board positions. He called it a loophole tactic.

CRIME

Claim: the non-prosecution rate for foreigners is climbing.

!Reality: rated false by Okinawa Times. JFC found the opposite, that foreigners are prosecuted at a higher rate than Japanese nationals.!<

Claim: serious crime by foreigners is increasing.

!Reality: violent offence arrests went from 247 in 2014 to 361 in 2023, about 1.5x. The foreign population grew 1.6x over the same period. Tokyo Shimbun's verdict: you can't say foreigners have become more likely to commit serious crime.!<

When adjusted for demographics: foreigners commit 1.36% more crime

Law abiding citizens:

Japanese: 99.8%

Foreigners: 99.6%

TAX

Claim: you can't collect inheritance tax from foreigners.

!Reality: the National Tax Agency says land and buildings in Japan are taxable regardless of the owner's nationality or residence.!<

TECHNICAL INTERNS

Claim: a record 9,700 interns vanished and became illegal immigrants.

!Reality: many were located and left the country, and 2024 figures were down about 30%.!<
