HP Deskjet 2600 series scanner not being detected

I was using my HP Deskjet 2600 series printer/scanner on my desktop with no problems - up until now when it's not finding the scanner anymore.

The 'Safe to remove hardware' icon is showing this device is connected but when I go to scan a document it says "The HP Deskjet 2600 was not found".

I don't use the printer function so there's no ink to test that. I've tried restarting the computer with the device connected and also disconnecting it then reconnecting after the restart and nothing changes.
